Reconditioning
Rope Wax
Our own blend of clean, white beeswax and high quality jojoba oil. It replaces the wax your rope loses to everyday use, and brings it fully back after a wash.
What it's for
Wax and oil are what keep jute soft and smooth in your hands. That conditioning doesn't last forever. Every tie, every pull through your hands and every friction wrap wears a little of it away, and a wash strips out most of what's left. Rope Wax puts it back.
- Replacing wax lost to normal use. When your rope starts to feel dry, rough or a little hairy, a fresh coat puts back what use has worn off.
- Fully reconditioning after a wash. Water and soap take the wax and oils out along with the dirt. Once the rope is completely dry, Rope Wax brings it all the way back. Our Rope Care page covers washing and drying.
How to use it
Make sure the rope is completely dry first.
Lay the rope on top of the wax. Open the tin and set the rope across the surface.
Press down and pull it through. Press the rope into the wax and draw it across, keeping the pressure on so it picks up wax as it goes.
Make a few passes. It may take a few trips along the length to get a good coating. You're looking for a visible layer of wax on the rope.
Then finish it one of two ways
Both start from that visible coat of wax. The difference is how deep it goes.
Rub it in
Rub the wax into the rope with your hands until you can no longer see it. This puts more of the wax on the outside of the rope, leaving it soft but waxy. The inside is still vulnerable to moisture.
Best for newer ropes after a spot clean.
Melt it in
Lay the waxed rope on a baking sheet and put it in the oven at the lowest temperature it will go, only for as long as it takes the wax to melt. The heat lets the oils soak into the fibers, so the rope resists moisture from the inside out.
Once it's out of the oven, apply one more thin coat of wax and rub it in, just like option 1.
Best for a full recondition after a wash.
Stay with it. Keep an eye on the rope the whole time it's in the oven, and take it out as soon as the wax has melted.
